So you want to ride a horse

So you think you like horses and want to give riding a shot? The first step is to determine which discipline interests you, English or Western (two very different types of riding and each very competitive).

English falls into the following major categories: show jumping, hunters, hunting, eventing, dressage, racing, polo, endurance and pleasure.

Western involves cutting, reining, roping, equitation, racing and pleasure.

The next step would be to find a trainer. Getting started with the right trainer is important so that you learn the correct basics. Don't go for the cheapest, otherwise you may have to relearn later down the line (costing you more in the long run).
